Karla Bistro

January 10, 2019

Hey food truck nation!

Talk about living the American dream! Oscar Romero is showing us how it is done every day at Karla Bistro! This is not your typical sandwich food truck spot, we must say. He and his wife are the perfect team working together every day bringing delicious sandwiches to the West Kendall area. This sandwich shop is taking ordinary sandwiches and completely transforming them into sensational dished using some Venezuelan flavors.

Oscar is originally from Venezuela and recently immigrated to the U.S. to fulfill his dreams. Cooking has always been a big passion of his and he decided to open his very own food truck. Once in the market to buy a food truck, he began shopping around and quickly discovered he was not pleased with the way they were being built. So naturally, he decided to build his own. Through this realization came the inception of his first business – building and designing custom food trucks! His very first sale was from a chef located all the way in Tampa for a whopping $70k!

After three and a half years of building and designing food trucks, Oscar decided it was time for more and decided to open his very own food truck. He decided to locate the food truck right off of Kendall Drive where it would be easily visible to passing traffic. So, why Karla Bistro? “Who exactly is Karla?” we asked. Karla is his wife and business partner. She has dedicated herself to creating and maintaining a tasty menu for their customers. She is also the person who handles the business and logistics portion of Karla Bistro, so Oscar thought what better way to honor her, than naming their food truck after her! While Karla is interacting with customers, you can find Oscar in the kitchen cooking up some gourmet sandwiches. He was not professionally trained to be a chef, but has been cooking for his huge family for years.

Next time you are in the Kendall area, you should definitely do yourself a favor and stop by Karla Bistro. They’re serving up a vegetarian-friendly burger all the way to the “La Bistro” sandwich. This decadent sandwich encompasses a perfectly cooked burger, chorizo, chicken and topped with an egg. Their top selling sandwich by popular demand is their “enrrollado”. This heavenly sandwich started with a warm pita bread, filled with your choosing of steak, chicken or a mix of the two, topped with crisp vegetables, crunchy lettuce and their secret house sauce. Warning, this sandwich is not for the faint of heart!

This summer Oscar plans to have his second Karla Bistro food truck operational and ready to hit the streets! A location has not been chosen quite yet, so stay tuned, because you know FTG will bring you the latest updates as we hear more! We want to thank Oscar and Karla for bringing their special sandwiches to West Kendall, taking the time to sit with us and sharing their inspiring story with us. We hope after hearing their story, you will feel inspired to accomplish your dreams as well!

Until next time,

Kellee O.
