Hello food truck nation!
Drumroll please... We have started a new week of the food truck takeover! This week we are highlighting Shawarma's Diana, an amazing food truck with some unexpected flavors! Gabriel Torres and Antonia Machek, owners of Shawarma's Diana, are both from Venezuela who met, fell in love and decided to make food their life's passion. They have spent years perfecting the art of Arabic food with a Venezuelan twist. Interested yet? Because we definitely are!
Needless to say, we had A LOT of questions for Gabriel. As he stood over his grill making his famous Beef Shawarma, we sat back and watched the magic happen. The food he makes come from family recipes passed down through many generations. Gabriel learned how to cook traditional Arabic food from his wife, Antonia, and her family. Fun fact: many may not know, but there is a large Arabic community in Venezuela. He made it very clear that Antonia was the back bone of Shawarma's Diana and his inspiration to continue to do what he does day in and day out.
While in the pursuit of making their dreams a reality, Gabriel and Antonia decided to make the big move to the U.S. When they got here, Antonia set out to learn Miami's take on Arabic cuisine and how she could expand her culinary expertise by working at an Arabic restaurant. Three months later, Shawarma's Diana was established and has been going strong ever since (about 1 year and 9 months)! This food truck was built on hard work, dedication and passion and it definitely shows in their delicious food.
Now… We all know that people are hesitant when it comes to trying new food that isn't exactly what they are used to, so Gabriel has an interesting offer for those willing to try their Arabic food. "If a new customer doesn't like the food they've ordered, the money will be refunded", he said. Did you get that? And, trust me, after tasting the Beef Shawarma, I sincerely doubt that ever happens. So, what exactly is in the Beef Shawarma besides perfectly balanced flavors? Sensationally grilled meat seasoned with the most beautiful spices and wrapped in a warm pita bread. Then, topped with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, parsley and cucumbers. And, if that wasn't enough, they drizzle it with their tangy parsley and sesame sauces, like what?! Yeah, they may not be your typical burger or hotdog, but after just one taste, you will not want to go back.
Food trucks are operated by some of the most hard-working people and we hope you all join the movement to support our local food truck owners like Gabriel and Antonia. Each has its own fascinating story and we are going to bring them all to the light one truck at a time! We want to thank Gabriel and Antonia for taking the time to share their story with us.
P.S. don't get us started on their homemade humus… You'll just have to try it for yourself. Run! Don’t walk.
