Hey there food truck nation!

You scream, we scream, we all scream for milk shakes! What do freak milkshakes, decadent toppings and happy customers have in common? You can find all three on any given day at The Market Milkshake Bar. Douglas Jesus Alvarado Pino is the super proud owner of The Market Milkshake Bar truck and is working hard to bring the best milkshakes to the food truck scene in Miami. We met up with Douglas last weekend to find out just why his milkshakes are the best.

A little over 5 years ago, Douglas decided it was time to take the ultimate leap of faith, leave his home country of Venezuela and move to the United States. Upon arrival, he did not shy away from hard work to make his dreams a reality. He went to school and juggled multiple jobs to support himself. His first job here was as a busser at a restaurant. And, after a few months of hard work, he was promoted to a server and really got to learn the ins and outs of running a restaurant. Five years later, he decided it was time to live out the American dream and open his very own food truck business!

Douglas officially opened The Market Milkshake Bar in November 2018. He rented a food truck to get his new business going and has not looked back since. He has been all over the Miami area serving Kendall and Haulover, but you can mostly find him in the Wynwood area. Wynwood is a place where you can find a unique and fascinating story within every shop and city corner. As Douglas said, “it has a little bit of everything.” This is a very tight-knit community that prides itself on being comprised on artisan shops where no two spots are the ever the same. In our opinion, it is a pretty accurate representation of the food truck scene here in Miami as well!

So, let’s get to the sweet stuff! Douglas has created a very impressive menu made up of ten different artisan milkshakes. Every milkshake is made from fresh ingredients and are served with extra-large toppings paired perfectly depending on the type of milkshake you ordered! I mean where else can you get a delicious cheesecake milkshake topped with an actual slice of cheesecake? We got the inside scope from Douglas on which milkshakes are his favorite – peanut butter, cookies n cream and guava and cheese. Being from Miami, our ears automatically perked up when we heard “guava and cheese” together! Douglas wanted to include a Cuban inspired milkshake in his menu, so he created the guava and cheese milkshake to pay homage to the Cuban pastellitos we all know and love.

As if ten milkshakes were not enough to choose from, Douglas is creating a new, creamy milkshake to sell for just the week, every week. So, this week he’s serving a chocolate and peanut butter milkshake which will be topped with a choco-taco ice cream. All we have to say is run, don’t walk! Douglas is also working on vegan-friendly and fruit options to include in his menu in the near future. He’s using the vegan ice cream from Vegalia in his vegan-friendly milkshakes and word on the street is that there will be a chocolate and hazelnut vegan milkshake coming soon! Working from a food truck allows its owners to get real time feedback from customers and Douglas has enjoyed that part and has even used some suggestions to make his milkshakes even better!

In the future, Douglas wants to purchase his very own food truck, participate in catering events and eventually open his very own storefront in the Miami area.
