Hey food truck nation!
This week has been a whirlwind for us as we have taken over Tornado Food Truck! Achraf Zariat and Natalia Zariat are the proud owners of Tornado Food Truck and have perfected the art of creating delicious foods for which everyone in your family will love. You can find them as far south as Homestead, all the way to Orlando, Naples and everywhere in between. Ready to be mind blown? Keep reading…
Ash and Natalia got together about three years ago, decided they wanted to work for themselves and ultimately purchased a food truck. After many long nights of thinking, they finally decided on what to name their food truck and more importantly, what they wanted to sell. It all started with a tornado potato. So, what exactly is a tornado potato? This delicious dish is a potato spiraled out onto a long wooden skewer and fried to perfection. You either can get the tornado potato plain with no toppings or fully loaded with bacon bits, sour cream, nacho cheese and green onions. Need we say more?
Ash is originally from Tunisia so he wanted to add items to the menu that were authentic to his roots and incorporate some family recipes. In fact, the humus that is made fresh at Tornado Food Truck is Ash’s grandmother’s recipe. He is serving up some seriously delicious Middle Eastern cuisine such as their homemade gyros and refreshing Greek salads. So, we asked Ash about the best items on the menu and what she recommends trying next. Her favorite plate is their signature Greek salad topped with shrimp. This salad is not for the faint of heart. It comes with crisp romaine lettuce, sweet tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, tangy feta cheese and Kalamata olives, drizzled with their Greek dressing and topped with perfectly cooked shrimp. Natalia's favorite item is their lamb gyro. They pile on the lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber and feta cheese on a warm pita bread, add their delicious lamb and top everything with their homemade tzatziki sauce.
Ash and Natalia also do catering events for special events. One day when they were meeting with a client about their upcoming event, Ash saw dragon’s breath for the first time. Ever since that day, he knew that was the next best thing to add to their menu. Dragon’s breath is made by soaking fruity puff cereal in liquid nitrogen. When you take your first bite, you will be breathing smoke just like a dragon! Liquid nitrogen is mostly used in desserts because it brings out the sweetness and flavors in the desserts. This unique menu item came with its challenges such as where to get liquid nitrogen tanks and how to store them in a mobile food truck. Once the logistics were figured out, the dragon’s breath quickly became a best seller here at the Tornado Food Truck.
In just a few months, Ash and Natalia will be opening another food truck, Tornado Food Truck 2, which will serve more crazy ideas for their customers. Eventually Natalia would like to franchise the food trucks to serve even more people in Florida. They will continue to cater special events and are willing and able to expand on the typical cuisine they mostly make to better cater to their clients. At Tornado Food Truck, you cannot go wrong with any item you choose to try because they have something for everyone! Next time you are in the area, stop on by and let them know that the Food Truck Guys sent you!
Until next time,
